Anonymity

Post by Padfield »

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

When I'm not logged in the competition entries are anonymous and there is a note with each picture saying they will stay anonymous until the voting is over. When I'm logged in each entry carries the name of the entrant. I like the anonymity idea - is it possible to keep it even when users are logged in?

Hi Guy,

I'm sure Pete or Gary will confirm, but would it be because you are a 'moderator' (as in your green name status) to the site?

All the entrants are anonymous when I'm logged in.

Cheers

Yes - it's because you're a moderator, Guy.

Cheers,

Thanks. Knowing they're anonymous I'll write less give-away descriptions of my pictures in future. I will, of course, continue to vote for my friends myself.

Guy you are a numpty.

I always rate every entry, only fair, as anyone who has entered an image, and is then voting, is in essence voting against themselves. Plus everyone who supported these comps, deserve to have their work ranked, ( slaughtered ). :D

I'm not quite sure what a numpty is, but I guess it's something pretty good.

I agree with you, Gruditch - and for the April comp I did give every picture a rating. I devised the following (quite generous) criteria so I could try to be objective:

4 - less than a competent 'record' shot.
5 - a competent record shot.
6 - evidence of skill or artistry (including lep skill, not just photographic skill, like photographing something rarely seen)
7 - evidence of skill and artistry
8 - something special about the picture that makes me stop judging it and start admiring it, but with some 'flaws'
9 - something special about the picture and few or no flaws to impair the enjoyment
10 - wow

I like your scoring mechanism Guy.

Mine's similar in that all shots are rated but I only have 1 each of 8, 9 and 10 so that there is a first, second and third in my view. This can be quite tricky and take some time as the entries are always great!

Now I just have to have not be last again......(I've had 2 I think plus a bottom third rating!)

Cheers
