Re: US of A
Might be worth posting something here:
http://www.monarchwatch.org/
The folks there were very helpful when I visited the US last year (although not sure how Monarch-centric they are!).
Cheers,
- Pete

Take a look at this tour by Sunstreak.

Excellent - mind you it's significantly nearer the Mexican border than I'm likely to get.... but the wording suggests I may be right for the spring species, I was worried I'll be too early.... thanks for the hyperlink.... some fantastic possibilities!!

I don't know if this is too late but there is a south western lepidoptera yahoo group which is full of people who can help.
My only tip is a place called silverado canyon in Orange County south of LA.
It is near Santa Ana IIRC

Great bluebird Paul, great shot (I am assuming it is a bluebird?) something I have always wanted to see. Hope you do manage to find something before you leave.

Yep... I would gues it's a Western Bluebird, but stand to be corrected.... first butterfly today, and my favourite species, a hairstreak... see personal diary if interested ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

The hairstreak's fantastic, Paul! I'd have loved to be there.
