Many congratulations to the winners for their superb photos, and well done to everyone else, especially as there were some real corkers in this month's competition!

Congratulations to FISHiEE and PhilB, both of which I scored very highly, with FISHiEE just edging it.

As this was my first entry in a monthly competition, I am absolutely delighted to have got 3rd. Thank you to all that voted for me and for keeping a compact camera user in the frame.

I rated every image because this was as much a test of the new system as it was a comptition. The top 3 were rated 10, 9, 8 and the remainder were scored out of 7. I am hoping that I can keep this up in the future, even when there are 53 entries. I thought the new competition arrangements worked very well. The anonymity of the contestants, rating system and secret scoring all added extra interest and tension and seemed much fairer. I will leave any satistical analysis and comments to to others, but I think that this is another great step forward for the website.

Cheers,

Vince

Congrats to the winners and everyone else too, as there certainly were some great photos.

It was my first monthy entry too and yep, last it is then! Ah well, still learning!

I also rated every image and my personal favorites were Vince's Clouded Yellow, Trev's Common Blue, Bill's Comma and Markulous's Blue.

I also like the mechanism (I missed the test run) and the anonymity of it. However, I knew who some of the entries were from as they had already posted them in the sightings thread!

Onwards and upwards!

All the best

Lee

Unlike the old system, where we would end up having half a dozen people on zero, with this new system there is going to be a last place. So lets give it an honorary title, Lee the very first Lanterne rouge.

Congratulations to the winning three.
Can FISHiEE be beaten? Yes - I've nailed 3 planks of wood across his front door (well I hope that was his house).
Obviously the wrong door. John, you need to look into this - I wouldn't want it on your conscience. I particularly liked Vince's Clouded Yellow shot with the white cliffs behind, although I ran out of time to vote using the new system. I would prefer to rate all of the images, which although a little more time-consuming seems a much superior and fairer system. Plenty of great shots and I wouldn't be too disappointed with last place Lee - see it as 'least first'. The competition is very stiff on here and your Red Admiral ain't bad. A bit more detail (a steady hand comes with practice) and a less tight crop would have made this a very nice image.

Congrats to the top three from me also.
I found myself looking at the pics and trying to work out who had taken them (after I had voted)
I only got Fishiee right :D 'Trade mark' excellent photograph again.
Well done to all that took part.

Congrats to winners, some very good shots there. Now at least you can see what people think of your images which is good (as in how high they would rate it, not just some images but all of them)

LOL I like it but alas yes the wrong door whoever posted that message :) Extra security lighting and guard dogs are in place now !

Well I think I like this new scoring system. Seems perfect with no changing necessary I reckon ;)

An excellent set of images as is the case every month and I'm lucky to have just edged it over PhiliB. Thanks to all of you who voted for mine. I was actually tempted to change it after a stunning end to september saw me with stacks more images that I didn't anticipate getting but wasn't sure if it was possible with the new system. Lucky I didn't :)

My favourites were Markulous's Blue, PhiliB's Brown Argus and Deano's Common Blue.

I do like the option to vote on all images though it's a bit of a time consuming process. Just noticed through reviewing the images just now there is a more efficient way to view and score at the same time so might make things a bit quicker next time. It was a bit of a marathon session this time voting for both the september competition and the big one in the one sitting!

Thank you FISHiEE for your comment on my Common Blue photo. Given the consistently superb standard of your photos, I am really pleased that you consider one of my images a favourite! :)
