semi ichnusoides

Post by Chris Pickford »

I had a nice pic of a Small Tort aber. semi ichnusoides sent to me by an old friend who lives in S. Oxfordshire - has anyone else seen these around?

As Small Torts eggs and pupae are available from suppliers for schools, I did wonder where these were captive bred on a hot window ledge in a school somewhere..... (the aber. is said to be produced by heating the pupa).

I haven't seen one for a few years, Chris. But you're right, this aberration is the result of high temperatures in the pupal stage, to the best of my knowledge.

Cheers,

Hi Pete...
Just seen an interesting expansion on the cause of this and other Small Tort aberrations. It also mentions one of the Small Copper aberrations (topical as there was the one on this site the other day :) ...
