Non butt

Post by chassyp »

Sorry about the non Butt, however I`m sure the like minded of us will appreciate a real quiz! Is this a Griffin Vulture?? Photo taken in the Andalucian area of Spain. Did also have Short Toed Eagle, and Bonellis! Thanks for any interest.

I thought the tail looks a big long for a Griffin. I took a liberty, and lightened it up a bit, if the shot is of the upper wing ( he would have to be doing some steep banking for this of course ) then the markings look right for a Griffin. But if that is the underside we are looking at, then I don't think it's a Griffin.
No help at all I know.
Here's one from the Hawk Conservancy, one bad tempered brute.

Many thanks for the reply and interest! Yes I am sure you are right about the tail!!
I have just had another gander through my Hamyln Guide, and come up with Boted Eagle as an idea??? Any other ideas would also be appreciated.

Definitely not a griffon. I immediately thought 'booted eagle' when I saw the picture, before I read your question. I've seen plenty of both and feel very comfy with the id of booted eagle, though I'm not an expert.
