The Mimic butterfly species comes from the Old World, where females are mimics of the African Monarch, Danaus chrysippus. It may have been introduced via the slave trade, H. misippus is probably not a permanent resident in all islands where it has been observed.
Range: Throughout the Greater Antilles, but rare.

The Purple Emporor butterfly - Doxocopa thoe is endemic to the Dominican Republic and is considered to be quite rare.

The Julia Longwing Butterfly species, although uniform in continental America, shows considerable variation in the Antilles where almost every island has its own subspecies. (Hispaniolan race, Dryas julia hispaniola).
