Butterfly ID needed please :)

Post by Jop »

I only really joined this forum to ask what butterfly it was that I saw. Its been bugging me for awhile because I really have no idea and I can't seem to find it.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture :( but it was pretty simple looking only it was a grey colour, cobalt-y with two red spots, one on each wing at the bottom.
I saw it at the end of May, in the middle of Cardiff if that makes any difference.
I'm assuming it was a butterfly because it was out during the day and looked like one lol... Butterfly expert that I'm not...

Thanks in advance :D

Hi Jop.

Here is a cinnabar moth:

How does your insect compare with that?

Yeah it is :) It didn't have the red lines and only one spot per wing but I guess it could have been folded up?
Thanks for solving my moth mystery :D lol there was me hoping for some magical rare form of butterfly that only eats west facing leaves on a full moon...or something...
