Couple of images for id please

Post by Eris »

I found this fellow on some stinging nettles at the end of my garden, any idea what he/she is? He's not exactly the most attractive caterpillar, he is about 1.5cms long

The second picture is of something odd. I had been searching my lime tree trying to find what had been munching it. I mean really munching - not just casual snackage, whole leaves have been shredded. I was drawing a total blank for anything of decent size and the only thing I found was this caterpillar that seems to have parasites on it of some kind, any ideas of what they are...and what sort of caterpillar it is/was.

I've no idea about the second one, but I'll guess at red admiral for the first.

Thanks... I was looking at moth pics, no wonder I didn't find him. I apologise for calling him unattractive, he will make up for it later
