Rodborough Common

I plan to visit Rodborough Common near Stroud soon to look for dukes. I've heard they're near an area known as Little London. Does anyone know of this site and where Little London is, please? Any other tips?

Butterfly Conservation Gloucestershire Branch do an excellent booklet 40 Butterfly Walks in the Cotswolds, think that's the title. Tells you all you need to know including maps and best places on itinerary. Superb. Will probably Google.

Hi Eccles,

I was there last weekend. A dozen plus Dukes, in several locations. Keep to the lower slopes facing the Severn Estuary
and you can't go wrong.

Lot's of Green Hairstreaks and Dingy skippers too, and a few Pasque flowers showing.

A belated thanks all. I printed the PDF of the NT leaflet which was a very nice little guide to the common. Location 3 turned up about half a dozen dukes.

Having watched this thread with interest I spent part of today at Little London and the later part at Swelshill Bank.

At the first site Dingy Skippers and Small Blues are out in abundance, I also saw one or two Adonis Blues - freshly emerged but sadly only one very tatty Duke. I have to presume that their short season is already over at this site.

At Swelshill again Small Blues and Dingy Skippers but many more Adonis Blues including some lovely females and again no Dukes.

So Totternhoe Quarry at the weekend on route to Norfolk....

Did I mention Painted Ladies ........ I counted 31 on route to Little London including 14 on one large flat bush (in flower) at the top of the slope. I must have seen more tha 60 insects today - fabulous.
