Are there any resources or information/videos for identifying UK butterflies in flight?

Hi David, I'm sorry to say that there is no database, article or photo album on this website at present which is dedicated to identifying butterflies in flight. It's a tricky subject generally and I can't think of an easy way of depicting or describing that sort of information. We do have a "Flying this Week" resource: https://ukbutterflies.co.uk/flighttimes_this_week.php which would help in narrowing down possible candidates for a mystery sighting and there is also a species listing for selected sites in Britain and Ireland: https://ukbutterflies.co.uk/sites_squar ... pecies=All which could be used to narrow down possible species that may be encountered in those areas. With me, in-flight identification has gradually developed with experience and particularly through transect-walking over many years. It also helps to have good books which describe flight characteristics and behaviours of different species.

Hope this helps,
Vince
