Compact camera or large zoom lens?

Post by Ian Pratt »

Following a trip to Bulgaria in April to see birds, butterflies and flowers, I realised that my big Sigma 150-600 mm lens was too heavy now. So I sold it on Ebay for more than it had cost me, and I have been using my Lumix FZ200 compact camera instead. It has a 25-600 mm F2.8 lens, and although not as sharp for distant objects at the 600 mm length it is great for closer photos. I attach a photo taken today of a chalk hill blue at full zoom. I am very happy with the sharpness. Less is more, I think!
