Winter Social 2022

Post by bugboy »

Well, it seems a little odd to be arranging the winter get-together with all the stuff currently going on in Sussex and Kent but believe it or not, the last Saturday in November is just over 9 weeks away  . Anyway, this year it falls on the 26th.

See you there, the first people are usually propping up the bar from 12 :)

Should be fine to make this, for the first time in quite a few years.

Seems that there will be a rail strike that day now.

However, not all rail companies are affected. At present South Western Railway (which runs the trains to Shawford) is not on the list.

Worth keeping an eye on for any changes.

Just had a look at booking a ticket but looks like the trains are only running to Basingstoke with or without a strike. There's a bus replacement between Basingstoke and Shawford

Why don’t we move this to a spring field event? Somewhere near a pub 😁

There was talk of Daneway before covid hit.

Can we have a show of hands as to who's made plans to attend this and whether postponing it to the spring would be a better option?

I'll be driving so happy either way - or indeed perfectly happy to do both. :)

An alternative (or additional) spring venue should probably be reasonably accessible by public transport in an ideal world.

Edit: Not sure if I misunderstood Pete's post. We will go ahead with the 26th. (Too late to cancel, especially since not everyone logs on as regularly as others) and plans will almost certainly have been made now.

Put your thinking caps on though, and if anyone knows of a nice butterfly rich site that's easy to get to and has a convenient place for light refreshment nearby, feel free to suggest it :) .

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to make this one. That weekend is looking particularly jam packed with family commitments. Disappointing as it’s always great fun meeting up, but maybe the potential spring option will time better. Have fun all those attending…..

My thinking was that some travel by train so that they can partake in a beer or 10 :)

I'll have to take my son to work in Guildford, but should be able to make it.

I'll still be heading there and Philzoid has arranged a lift to get there as well...

If anyone can get to Southampton Central there is a Blue Star bus that runs from the city centre to the White Horse at Otterborne...if that helps?
As for a Spring trip I don't mind where as if there are butterflies about the number of pints consumed will be drastically reduced and even switched to Cokes
