open winged Small Heath

I was absolutely thrilled to see in our butterfly garden this Small Heath doing, for whatever reason, what they normally never do - open their wings fully when settled. One of those moments you either capture or is lost for ever.

Just seen a Pearly Heath posing wings open in Italy, Phil. Can't offer an explanation for it, but as you say, when it happens you need to capture it.

It looks like a female (by the size and shape of the abdomen).
