Erebia from Bulgaria...

Post by David M »

Struggling a bit with this one, sent to me by someone who holidayed in Bulgaria.

I'm not familiar with the forms in SE Europe. My gut instinct said oeme but it looks nothing like the Bright Eyed Ringlets I see in France.

Anyone any ideas?

Hi David,
My guess would be E. oeme ssp. spodia.

I agree - definitely oeme. I've seen similar females in Switzerland:

Females are less often seen well than males, as they don't cluster on tracks.

Many thanks, both. That certainly looks to be the one. Been caught out rather too often with erebia ssps, as you well know, so I wasn't taking any chances on this one!
