This kind of discolouration seems to occur quite regularly in Hedge Browns. At the extreme end of the scale you can get individuals like this one posted on the S. Wales Butterfly Conservation pages earlier today:

That looks like the one reported from Prees Heath yesterday David.

A beautiful ab. I seem to recall a similar one posted a year or two back from somewhere down south.

We get a similar one regularly [every 7 years or so] at Hutchinsons Bank, but in ours is more white, & females seem to be rarer but do occur

Yep, that's the one, Neil. Word obviously spread quickly and I'm not surprised with a specimen like that.
