Pigmy Skipper?

Post by Stevieb »

Going through my photos of my Cyprus trip I came across this Skipper taken amongst Millets . Is it a Pigmy? I believe they do fly together
Many thanks in advance.

The curved, pointy antennal tip suggests millet skipper. The antennal tips of pigmy skippers are straight and round-ended (and reddish buff at the end, not black).

Many thanks for your quick reply Guy. What about this one? Rounded antennal tip? Although colour may be wrong.

Hi Stevie. That one has a clear, pointy hook to the antennal tip - so is thrax (look at the nearer antenna - it curves towards you).

I'm happy to be corrected - I've never seen either species in the flesh myself - but the antennae observation works for all the pictures I can find on the web.
