Swallowails flying in Norfolk yet?

Post by John W »

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Swallowtails are flying in Norfolk yet? I'm thinking of going up there on the weekend of June 1st/2nd. Are there likely to be many around then?

Thanks

Good hunting, John! I'm having to wait until 14th June to go - I hope there will be some left!

I was in Norfolk last year 10th - 14th June and found enough still flying to make me very happy.

More details in my PD on page 123,

Just returning from a day trip to Norfolk, its fair to say they're having a good year if today is anything to go by. The only thing that outnumbered the Swallowtails were photographers!

I visited Strumpshaw Fen today. As Bugboy says, there were a lot of photographers, who didn't seem as friendly as the UKB butterfly crowd. So after getting a few shots at the flower bed by reception, I went out to the fen, where I saw several.

Today at Strumpshaw I saw a perfect specimen on a piece of rough ground by Tinker's Lane, just before the late doctor's garden.

Later on Lackford Run I saw a group of 5 Swallowtails chasing each other at high speed over the reed tops, an unforgettable sight!
