Is this just a pale small heath(taken in Hampshire)and if so is it a common variant? Thanks Jim

Yes, it's an aberrant Small Heath, probably ab. albescens. Quite rare.

I've seen thousands of Small Heaths over the years, Jim, but never one like that!

I guess you could say it was rare! :)
