Butterfly Identification Required

Hi all,

I don't have a clue about butterflies but I'm a keen gardener.

I was gardening near where I live in Cornwall when I uprooted a butterfly or possibly a type of moth??? While I was gardening.

I have attached the photo. Any ideas what it is? Just intrigued.
