Oh dear! Have you told them, Roger?

Thank God it wasn't a Silvery Argus entitled 'Damon Blue'. :D

There is a reason that you can't see the error, Chris - that's because the page has been changed. It had a photo of an Adonis Blue with the caption "the common blue". It would seem that someone has spotted it and taken it out.

It now has a different link but the caption hasn't changed: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44899068

The new link has a photo of a "small white" with distinctly green veins.

However, I'm certainly not inclined to be critical of a programme that is designed to raise awareness in the general public, and in that repect they are doing a great job.

Yup. You'd think they'd at least refer to the ID guide they publish on the same page!! Sloppy preparation, but as you say, anything that raises awareness of butterflies is to be applauded irrespective of any errors made.

Give them some credit for changing it pretty quickly, when the error was pointed out. When they reported on the garden birdwatch, they initially showed a Tree Sparrow, labelled as the common House Sparrow. I e-mailed a birding friend about it and he thought I was wrong because they'd already changed the photo

Latest now is Naga Munchetty's cringeworthy attempt to interview Sir David Attenborough.

He was on to talk about the Big Butterfly Count but all she wanted to know were the Queen and Prince Charles' views on the environment!! :(
