Seen in the Alpes-Maritimes walking up a wall.

Definitely a Hawk moth of some sort. I'm not familiar with the continental species to get further than that but it should give you a starting point :)

Thanks a lot bugboy. The best candidate seems to be the Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).
