Anything near Bradford-on-Avon?

Post by LauraS56 »

I'll be visiting tomorrow, just for the day. Any ideas for where to visit would be appreciated. I guess too early for Large Blue.......

Large Blue is out at Collard Hill but it is an hour or so's drive from Bradford-on-Avon. The Gloucestershire sites are probably no nearer.

White Sheet Hill and Cley Hill are not too far to the south - both are chalk downland sites with Adonis Blue on the wing at present; the former may still have Marsh Fritillary as well. White Sheet Hill (ST797350) is a slightly further drive than Cley Hill (ST838443), but at the latter you have to climb the steep hill.

To the north, Hazelbury Common near Box has a fine reputation locally as a butterfly site, with much the same species present.
