Hi Guy,
It's on a very small site, where (in a good year like 2006) I see the females on a daily basis (2-3 pm), visiting the single sallow on which they lay. Found a total of six caterpillars on it last spring! I've actually been 'inside' the sallow watching them lay at very close quarters. I've also seen females on the ground here, probing for moisture. I've done much better with females so far, so it's off to Fermyn this July as I've always 'lucked out' with the classic male shot. I once had one land on my forefinger, but that's too close for photography!

Wonderful! Although I love the males and will always be transfixed by them, it is the females that have that 'rare butterfly' feel for me. Perhaps I will concentrate on finding the host plants this year instead of setting up shop on tracks with fox and marten droppings.
