Hi Paul,

I think I'll wait a couple of weeks before implementing this, for several reasons:

1. I'm travelling for the next 2 weeks and really want to be around once this is released, in case "something bad happens"

2. I'd like to get a sense of how easy it is to upgrade the blog implementation from release to release. Within 2 weeks there will probably be a couple of bug releases.

3. I'd like to get some answers to my questions - which are regarding certain features and timeline for final release. In particular, there's no mechanism for hosting images (you need to upload an image "somewhere else" and then use an IMG tag to embed images - which is not very nice

The good news is that migration of the old blogs should be OK (I've tested this locally and its all fine).

So - watch this space!

OK - the blogs are now up and running again

One proviso - I can't guarantee that recent postings will be "safe" while we sort out any last-minute bugs. But please start using the new mechanism (it's a complete rewrite) and let me know of any problems / questions / concerns etc.

The new-look forums were implemented at the start of the year and now, at last, I'm pleased to say that the new blog system is up and running. All existing blogs have been migrated. A blog is a "web log" where registered users can, in essence, keep a diary of their exploits for others to see and comment on. The various blogs can be found at:

As a newbie, I did not have experience of the pre upgrade site. I am a member of a couple of other sites which seem to be similar to each other but this one is different.

I really like the default colour settings and uncluttered pages. The other sites I am on have too much information and are not so well organised. So, well done and its nice to be on a relaxing site.

The only suggestion I can make is that a 'Todays Post' would be an asset. There may be one but I have not yet found it This would lift out these from the rather long lists of forum topics. What I find is that I might not be around when a thread starts but get interested when I have the time to comment. This usually encourages people to submit things for discussion and would drive up the 'active' member numbers.

What do you think and, what about the other members?

... you can click on "View new posts" to see the most recent posts. Not sure if this is what you're after, but it's what I use all the time
