A moth for ID

Post by millerd »

While at Bedfont Lakes CP today I came across two of these little moths (as well as hundreds of little Mint Moths in various colour combinations). Can anyone identify them, please? I think they are the same species...

Thanks,

Hmmmm, not convinced they are the same species, the first looks a bit noctuidy and the second looks more geomatridy to me. As to species.....best guess for the first would be a Wainscot of some kind, but that is a (barely educated) guess, the second I'm drawing a blank....a bit like its wings really!

They are both Sitochroa Palealis - a lovely moth. They are just out on the Essex sea walls too and feed on wild carrot. They are prone to variation, although you've probably got the two extremes there.

Thank you both - it was very white in flight and I was curious to know what it was. Now I do! :)
