Meadow Brown with extra white spots in eyespot
Meadow Brown with extra white spots in eyespot
Last Thursday in Norfolk I photographed this Meadow Brown with a largish 2nd white spot in the eyespot. Any observations on how often this occurs? Earlier in month I also photographed one with a small 2nd white spot just like the subspecies "cassiteridum" in Adrian Riley's book. Eric

There was a short thread about double-spotted Meadow Browns, a few years ago: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6357
I've seen a few more since then but they're not common. I rather enjoy confounding the old 'rule' that two spots = Gatekeeper

Thanks Mike for that link, interesting. I now also post this photo with the smaller 2nd white eyespot. Eric
