Re: Chalk Hill Blue ab?

Thanks Toby,

I have a particular interest in looking for abs, done the 'normal' versions of all species some years ago but doubt I will ever get through all those abs in my lifetime, unless I live to be about 265 of course . . . . .

All the best,

Mark.

Re: Chalk Hill Blue ab?

Hi Toby,

I think you may well be spot on with that!

Many thanks for taking the time to have a look, there seem to be so many abs of this species?

Re: Chalk Hill Blue ab?

Thanks for the thoughts guys, whatever it is it is certainly one of the most unusually coloured female specimens I have come across!

Stood out amongst the 'normal' ones.

Chalk Hill Blue ab?

Hi All, I came across this unusual female Chalk Hill Blue at Badbury Rings, Dorset this morning. Looking at British Butterfly Aberrations website there is a very similar specimen classed as a mosaic gynandromorph and the abs section of this site mentions ab. semisyngrapha-subaurantia which also look...

Brown Argus ab

Upon closer inspection of this Brown Argus seen at Martin Down this morning I'm pretty sure it is ab.albisignata due to the white beneath the black markings on the bottom of the hindwings?

Re: Strange Looking Meadow Brown

Thanks for all the replies. Good to know it is an ab . . . .

Around the time I photographed this one there were at least a dozen or so persons looking to the trees for Purple Emperors not too far away from me.

I was just content with boring Meadow Browns!! :D

Strange Looking Meadow Brown

Came across this bizarre individual at Garston Wood, Dorset this morning.

Have never seen one with a full white border! ab or just a variation it looks quite attractive, at least for a Meadow Brown anyway . . . . . .

Dingy Skipper ab??

I came across this feisty fellah today (25/8/21) at Ballard Down, Dorset.

I am thinking it could be an unknown ab?? There is a similar one pictured in the abs section. Any thoughts anyone??

Cheers,

Mark.

Large Blues

Seven Large Blues seen at Green Down (Somerset) this morning but most were zooming around in hot unbroken sunshine. One did settle very briefly a few times, perhaps not long emerged as it was very fresh looking.

Re: Unusual Brown Hairstreak.

At first I thought it was a longhorn beetle and was cursing it for being in the way, but was amazed to see it was a clearwing - - - and then started cursing the Hairstreak!
