Re: April 2011

Since my last post, I've made two more trips to Ashlawn Cutting in Rugby, Warwickshire. 6th April was a gloriously warm, sunny day and off work, so off to GCW. Orange Tips and Brimstones now about in good numbers. Peacocks were highest in number, followed by Commas. A number of little white butterfl...

Re: March 2011

Had my first chance to go hunting for butterflies yesterday afternoon, and happily had my first sightings of the year. Walking along Ashlawn Cutting I saw about 8 x Peacocks, 6 x Commas and 4 x Small Tortoiseshells. There were a number of butterflies on the wing, but they were probably the same thr...

Re: Big Butterfly Count

I've only managed to find a Top Ten of the Big Butterfly Count results so far. Is a Top 59+ published online anywhere? The Top Ten was published in The Daily Telegraph, and it was mentioned that at least one Camberwell Beauty had been sighted, but even on the 'Count's website I can only find the Top...

This isn't a Grizzled Skipper, is it?

Hi there. I was exploring the Ashlawn Cutting section of Great Central Walk in Rugby on Sunday afternoon, when this little beauty caught my eye. I thought at long last I'd found a butterfly I hadn't seen before. At first I thought it was a Grizzled Skipper (so far I've only ever seen Large Skippers)...

Re: A Good Summer for Butterflies?

As far as my Warwickshire back garden is concerned, 2010 has been abysmal compared to last year. During the recent Butterfly Conservation week I only saw Small Whites and one Peacock! Species in the garden in 2010 overall so far: Small White, Large White, Holly Blue, Common Blue, Peacock, Small Tort...

Re: May 2010 sightings

Hi. Thank you to the member who directed me to the attachment tab. All being well here is the Comma with the heavy markings that I mentioned a week ago. A possible subspecies? Any comments are welcome. I went for another walk along Great Central Walk today (well, Sunday afternoon) this time along th...

Re: May 2010 sightings

Hi everyone. This is my first ever post here, but I discovered the site last summer after I became impressed with the variety of butterflies in my back garden in Rugby. I'm making the effort to visit my nearest haven of wildlife, Great Central Walk, as much as I can, and in late April photographed t...
