Re: Plans for next year?

How about Morocco for a trip? I know it's not in Europe but the temperature there is still in the seventies. Oddly enough...see the Overseas Section, the post named "Agadir in January". I already posted a thread but it didn't gain much interest. I'm still hoping to get out there with a bu...

Re: New Biology Section

Hi Pete, Thanks for the comments Gibster - did you ever post your obsoleta Small Copper? I seem to recall reading somewhere on this site that pics had to be of a certain standard and in keeping with other pics. I wouldn't want to bring your website into disrepute with my appallingly rubbishy shots, ...

Re: New Biology Section

Hi Pete, that's a great piece of work, I very much enjoyed watching the timeline of events unfold. But I'm a real b*gger for detail. So... (gulp, am I allowed to question the site owner?) 1912 - Stymonds Yat should read Symonds Yat. 1932 - re the Tiger Swallowtail record, "It is believed to hav...

Re: NEW WEBSITE

And the added bonus is that after the butterflies have finished, we birders can still make use of your splendid site in an attempt to be in the right place at the right time - whether to enjoy the spectacle of a decent fall, observe hard weather movements, look out for overshooting spring migrants, ...

Re: October Sightings

Today started horrible in London, but turned out positively lovely and warm on the coast at Brighton across to Eastbourne. On my return to London this afternoon I found it was just as nice as at the coast. Tomorrow is meant to be good too and the weekend forecast to hit 23 degrees with southerly air...

Agadir, Morocco in January

Hi all, I'm planning a birding holiday to the Souss region of Morocco (close to Agadir) late January. I don't have a butterfly guide to the region, although the Collins Butterfly Guide comes fairly close. I realise that January is less than optimum for butterfly watching (!) but does anyone know of ...

Re: Plans for next year?

Hey Zonda, so you're a twitcher? Birds? Me too! I couldn't get away for the Blakeney Empid (but got the Cornwall bird) or Tiree Parula, but I've seen 'em all on the other side of The Pond anyway. Hooded Warbler is my missing species...one of those babies turns up and I'm gone! Back to butterflies......

Re: October Sightings

seems the butterfly season is coming to an end here. Whereas the wasp season has just begun here...every morning 2 or 3 fly into the bathroom whilst I'm showering - attracted to the light shining into the darkness from an open ceiling hatch. Makes for an interesting "dance" whilst I swat ...

Hi there,

I'd say it looks like a Bright-line Brown-eye Lacanobia oleracea. But I could easily be mistaken!!!

Cheers,

Re: September sightings

I was sitting in my truck today, stuck in traffic, when I suddenly noticed a Small Copper perched on the tail spoiler of the car beside me. The lights changed and the car sped off, Small Copper still in situ...well that's one unexpected means of dispersal I guess!!! :o

Re: Plans for next year?

My main target for 2011 is Mountain Ringlet of both races. We spent quite a lot of effort this year checking the sites at the right time (but in rubbish weather) and again in glorious weather (but left it just too late, grrrrrr) That's the only missing UK resident apart from Real's Wood White in Ire...

Re: September sightings

Continuing the theme, I've had several really good non-sightings from Surrey...ALL week long! I'm kinda midway between Dorset and Cambs so if either of you chaps fancy popping in for tea and biscuits with more non-sightings than you can shake a copy of Thomas and Lewington at... PS My blog is finall...

Hi all, just back from a Pirate & Nurse Wedding in Cornwall followed by their honeymoon on St Marys on Scilly (we'z a friendly bunch don'tya know) Note - not a hint of the Norfolk talk! Anyway, we hit Scilly for the endemic races of Speckled Wood and Meadow Brown. Speckled Woods were seen...

Re: September sightings

Hi all, Sami found a freshly dead White Admiral today. Apparently it was lying on the pavement alongside a busy road in Epsom. It's currently residing in a pot in our room! They breed on nearby Epsom Common, but I thought this was rather a late date??? Off to Cornwall and IOS now, back in a week. Ho...

Re: Long-tailed Blue at Portland Bill, Dorset

I wonder if Gibster had any luck? Hi Zonda. Unfortunately Gibster DID NOT have any luck :( By the way, I laughed at the original posting dated 9th September: ... seen and photographed at Cheyne Weares on Portland yesterday - 10th September... Now that's what I call optimism Hi Jack. I've always had...
