Re: Sussex Kipper

"I've seen a minimum of 33 individuals over 5 sites" Neil, You have seen with your total of 33 different individuals, just 5 short of the total of 38 recorded individual Long-tailed Blues across the whole of the UK in the infamous & historic migrant year of 1945. I believe the record ...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Just to put on record again my thanks to Neil (Sussex Kipper) as if it wasn't for Neil's enthusiasm & willingness to share the Long-tailed Blue sightings & related information on here and personally by phone (including to me) then quite a few folk (including myself & my family) wouldn't ...

Re: Sussex Kipper

Couldn't agree more. I mean - they're bl**dy good photos anyway, but when you add the rarity factor they really are something special! Neil gave me a good impression of how much effort he's put in to get those shots when I spoke with him last week. My hat goes off to him :) Cheers, - Pete I have to...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Good stuff Paul (Testudo Man)! Hopefully everyone that travelled however many times to try & connect & see this species has now seen it & frazzled away the ozone layer with the many thousands of miles of driving we've done between us all!! Does Paul Whetton take the biscuit with over 15...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

"1500 miles or so"...............HAA HAAA HAAAAAAA!!!............That completely trashes my 676 miles !!! Still.....Common as it is around southern Europe and in other areas in the world, until this year it remained a very rare migrant that anyone would be very fortunate indeed to see in ...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Oh Yessss as Churchill often says, what a great day at Kingsdown Leas. Two Clouded Yellows and four LTBs preventing me from a nervous breakdown or worse. The Clouded Yellows were both fly byes but the LTBs behaved very well. One female was very worn but two males and a second female were in great c...

Re: Small Copper

I agree.....the specimen in question has plenty of blue but as it is a bit faded is not so contrasting. This does not mean it is not this said form 'caeruleopunctata'. We see a fair number of this form in Cornwall each year.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Well done Adrian on seeing 3 x Long-tailed Blues today! Glad they're still emerging there therefore giving other folk the chance of seeing them for possibly the only time in their life on British soil!
All the best.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Weatherwise, it looks to be a decent weekend, so this could be a final opportunity to get out and see this butterfly. As an aside, are we now to assume that the potential Clouded Yellow explosion is unlikely to occur? Don't rule out the next home brood Clouded Yellows. There will some emerge I'm su...

Re: September 2013

Last Sunday was my birthday and as it was sunny I decided at about 13.00 to visit Brading Down on the Isle of Wight where I live. I saw the following: Chalkhill Blue (2), Common Blue (2), Small Copper (2), Red Admiral (1), Small Heath (1), Speckled Wood (2 ) Someone else the same day reported from ...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Hi Paul,
From our last weekend visit, all I can say is give it a go. I still reckon they are hatching in ones and twos. Look down in the grass for them!
Great adventure!
Cheers,
Lee Slaughter (Cornwall).
