Re: Moving trees
Just an update, started moving my trees in garden (images tomorrow, blowing a gale today so not goo photographing weather) and I put them in a row (with enough space of course) down near the fence. Have room for about a few more trees. Have x2 Oak (Sessile and English), x2 grey sallow, 1 goat willow...

Re: September 2011
Not very productive here, strong winds today and last night so not much around. Only see x2 small white, a large white and a Small Tortoiseshell (seen one twice in two days). Been getting my garden a little more wildlife friendly so hopefully more will appear in garden in future and be able to breed.

Request for images for a garden wildlife video
I am working on a video that I am going to post on YouTube in the near future and its about how to create a habitat for wildlife in your garden and what to do in winter to help wildlife such as birds. I would like to get photos of various peoples gardens that have been designed for wildlife in mind....

Re: SD Card problems
Hi Mike
Yes I have usually formatted (not recently though) and my Canon 600D can support SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards (not sure max size). I'll format card again and see if that helps.

SD Card problems
I have a 32GB ProSpec SDHC (x150 speed) card and it works fine, but everytime I put it into my computer, it says that it needs to be scanned to check for errors and it constantly fixes some errors on the card (sometimes it comes up and there are no errors) but saving images to the card on computer c...

Re: Photographing something with grey sky in background
Thanks, I have just started shooting in RAW and I know it can be better for retaining quality. I have been taking a lot of photos recently and think I have got the hang of this, I'll post a few images later tonight. BTW, Clive, forgot to say, cracking shots. Love the Red Kite, is that a red kite? I ...

Re: Common Blue aberration at Murlough NNR, Co. Down
I see what you mean - unless it's characteristic of mariscolore (that being an Norn Irish boyo like!) I also wondered if the ground colour on the underwings was lacking in colour / paler than usual. Orange scales absent here too maybe? I'll have to check my common blue images to see if any of mine ...

Re: Two trees help (one possible Elm)
A few people said Wych and English Elm (one I can see now is clearly English Elm) the other I didn't think of being hazel but now you mention it, it looks more like hazel than elm.

Re: Small Tortoisehells
About a month ago I saw lots (in one small area I saw at least 17) so they are having a good year around my haunts in Co Down, its peacocks that are having a really bad year, saw one all year!

Re: Photographing something with grey sky in background
Sorry for late reply, been so busy moving house and not having internet for a while. Thanks Clive, I'll play around with settings and see what I can come up with. Your right with the exposure compensation. Will try out today sometime.

Two trees help (one possible Elm)
Have not been around or been able to get out much since I just moved house and was moving stuff in my new house. I did manage to get out yesterday afternoon for a few hours and I was in a damp, boggy woodland with a river running through it with lots of boggy/wet places but one side was less damp an...

Re: August 2011
Yesterday I was out doing some work in a ancient bluebell wood (Oak, ash, Elm, Beech, Lime) by surveying the trees and plants in it and while on the edge at a hay meadow, I saw 2 large whites, 1 small white, 1 green-veined white, a worn meadow brown and hurray, a speckled wood! (not that enthralling...

Re: August 2011
I disagree with Mike, flava is very yellow, and when you see it there is no mistake. It could be just an aged specimen, they do become very pale, almost translucent. The hind wings also appear to be red, flava has no trace of red at all. Having said that, it's very difficult from a photograph, so M...

Re: August 2011
Went down to the large hill with flower meadows, deciduous forest (Oak, ash, beech, willow, elm, lime), larch plantation, hazel/dog rose/hawthorn hedgerow and a potato/carrot field and while there saw 5 small tortoiseshells, 2 GV whites, 2 large whites, a holly blue (Male) but the highlight was a si...

Re: Photographing something with grey sky in background
Might try that, only problem is with most subjects, they are a bit far away for the flash effects to work.

Photographing something with grey sky in background
I have been trying to figure this out but can't get good shots. Basically some things I am photographing are contrasted to a dark background (such as a grey sky) such as trees or a bird and what I would like to do is get the object not to appear dark against the dark background, so you can see it as...

Re: Butterflies of Var, Southern France
Some great images Roger, just a niggle though the vegetation (grass, leaves) in some images that are in the front, are a little distracting. Favourites are Chestnut heath, Ripart's Anomalous Blue and Nettle Tree Butterfly

Re: Apple Orchard, then to now
Thanks. Wish we did, all populations in NI are in 25 sites in Fermanagh over 100 miles west of here. Bit off topic, but I think BCNI were going to create a roadside sign in the shape of a dingy skipper with birds-foot trefoil in it with info on dingy skipper on it, where populations are breeding alo...
