Re: 2021 photo competition

Hi,
The last two years we have had the top 6 photos with 6 more recommended. Any reason why only the top 5 shown this year?

Re: September 2021

A very heavily marked green-veined white seen today on the Isle of Wight. Is this normal or an aberration?

My grandson

My youngest grandson Reuben aged 18 months is learning many new words. His latest ones are butterfly, moth and hummer bird. Clearly my daughter is bringing him up well!

Re: August 2021

A new butterfly site for me in Bedfordshire- Bromham Lake Local Nature Reserve. Wonderful wildflower meadow adjacent to the train mainline from St Pancras. 16 species of butterflies, moths and dragonflies seen including over 30 peacocks and brimstones, and a gorgeous couple of brown hawker dragonfli...

Grayling at Chobham Common last Monday. Richard Lewington describes the grayling as "a master of camouflage", and this is shown in one of the photos particularly.

Re: August 2021

Seen both today and yesterday- several wall browns in woodland near Ryde, Isle of Wight. Also silver-washed fritillaries, white admirals, ringlets, very fresh red admirals and peacocks, plus a couple of painted ladies.

There is a ukmoths website, but the photos may be much bett...

Re: Nostalgia

There is a desire to try to reintroduce the three species that have disappeared. It is largely down to habitat management. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Nostalgia

I attach some photos from my archive taken in 2006 in Norfolk and the Isle of Wight. The small pearl-bordered fritillary and pearl-bordered fritillary have been absent form the Isle of Wight for several years now, sadly.
