Breeding butterflies from the conservation list

I have found a site where you can get eggs, larva and pupa to breed yourself. It has in it's lists several butterflies with BAPs'. I also saw on telly today a man who is realeasing Fritillary he has bred in the Tamar valley. I am now looking for reasons not to breed them myself and I can't think of ...

The Blue one again

I'm still trying to find out what this blue butterfly was I saw in my garden the other day. It was large, about 4/5cm across and a pale kind of baby blue colour with no real discernible wing edge colour.
Any ideas?

Re: July 2011

I have not seen berries before since not much blackthorn around my area, only one and its around 3 years old. the sl...

Re: July 2011

Today, out walking on the coastal path, I spotted dozens of Meadow Browns, a Comma, a Speckled Wood and 3 Ringlets having a fight but yesterday, in my garden, I saw a really big, pale blue butterfly, it was about 5cm across flitting around my privet and it had no marks on the edge of its wings, I al...

Blue...

ok it was very very small (at this point everyone is thinking holly) about 18mm across, it had no distinguishing marks, no black tips on it and it wasn't that pale but it wasn't that dark
there have been lots of holly blues around here lately, if this is one, it is alot smaller :?

Re: Swallowtail butterflies

so, in theory, they would thrive in any area with similar qualities? And a whole stack of the larval food plant; Peucedanum palustre also known as (amongst other things) Hog's Fennel. Why do you ask Vawn? Planning an introduction somewhere? Felix. funny you should ask well I am into...

Re: Swallowtail butterflies

k cool so flat lands with plenty of watery areas, this being the typical habitat preferred by swallow tails, so, in theory, they would thrive in any area with similar qualities? eg if a population was introduced to somewhere in the south that is flat and watery, they wouldn't all just die straight a...
