Re: May 2012

Inspired by Willrow's posting last weekend, included Aberbargoed Grasslands in the itinerary for a big day out from Derby yesterday and was delighted I did - c20 fresh Marsh Frits and c10 fresh Small PBs made for a memorable visit. Sites visited during the day:- Haugh Wood, Herefordshire (W White an...

Camberwell Beauty overwinters in Essex?

Hello to those who know me and the many more who are lucky enough not to. Regrettably not my sighting but a very fortunate Mr David Preston encountered one at Rainham Marshes RSPB reserve on Friday 19th. See this link for further details and photo:- http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/r/rainhammar...

Re: Queen of Spain Fritillaries in Sussex

I'll forgive you Pete! Sounds like you're incredibly busy and this site is an absolute credit to you. Of course, if I visited regularly enough to know my way around the site properly I would have found the previous postings. Fortunately Rog saved me from further embarassment. Having learnt my lesson...

Queen of Spain Fritillaries in Sussex

Hi all,

Only just found out about these - apparently the offspring of a female seen in July.

Check out http://www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk/sightings.html for more info.

Good luck to anyone who goes.

Jack,

Count me in too.

Let's hope we'll be looking back on a butterfly season that finished well!

Re: Glapthorne & Chequered Skipper

Nice photos Chris, Paul and Rog. I'm pleased that you guys plus Kevin, the furthest travellers of the group, managed to see the one obliging insect. The warden has promised to ring me when decent numbers are on the wing - I'll try to remember to put the info on this forum when I get the phonecall, i...

Re: Glapthorne & Chequered Skipper

Yesterday in typically selfless fashion (well actually it was a relatively minor diversion on the way home from the Buff-breasted Sandpiper in N Cambridgeshire) I called in at Glapthorne late p.m. to check the Black Hairstreak situation. Met the warden who confirmed no sightings yet this year, nor i...

Re: Glapthorne & Chequered Skipper

Rog et al, Looks like the 15th is a definite non-starter for me - junior cricket plus a family get-together being organised for Father's Day. As there are concerns we may be early, and recalling the fact that last year it was too early for PE, White Ad etc at Fermyn, I'll throw a spanner in the work...

Re: Glapthorne & Chequered Skipper

Rog, I'm game for another Black Hairstreak and Chequered Skipper combo meet, although Saturdays are best for me due to junior cricket commitments on Sunday mornings (have to show some parental support even in the butterfly season!). Saturday 14th would therefore be better for me, with a slight conce...

Chequered Skipper pub meeting

That's a shame Jack. We'll have to consider an April meeting - the way the weather has been, the season proper won't get going until May this year!

If anyone other than Rog or myself is still intending to go to the Chequered Skipper next Saturday please post by Tuesday evening (7th March)
