Cleopatra

I had always assumed that the Cleopatra had closed wings when at rest like our Brimstone. Recently, in southern Greece my wife watched a male Cleo land and stretch its wings wide for a few seconds before flying off. Sadly, too quickly for a photograph. Any thoughts anyone?

Re: Large Chequered Skipper Favourite photos of 2022

From an early age, having seen a photograph of the stunning underside, LCS was on top of my want to see list. I finally made it in Bulgaria a few year back. As Guy says, the 'bouncing' flight is unique and a delight to watch.

Re: Costa Rica November 2022

Brilliant report, Pete - many thanks. Took me back to my visit a few years back. One could easily spend a couple of years there if circumstances allowed! Did you have any trouble with your camera seizing up due to the humidity? I twice had to spend a couple of hours with my wife's hairdryer to get m...

Re: Appeal for funding

Hello David,

If you do get a chance to go to Bhutan, jump at it - you will not be disappointed - Sonam is a most knowledgeable and likeable chap. I'm sure he will show you some amazing stuff.

Appeal for funding

I have recently received an appeal from Sonam Dorji in Bhutan, where he is trying to raise funds for a film about the Bhutan Glories. I have sent my five pennyworth - can anyone else help? Should anyone want to go to Bhutan butterflying, they could not do better than contacting Sonam - He knows wher...

Re: Recommended tour companies

Mario, the main guide with Wild Echo, is as good as it gets. He seems to know exactly where to find stuff and also makes sure everyone eats well. Highly recommended!

Red Admirals

Just back from Palanga on the Baltic coast of Lithuania, where there were literally hundreds of very fresh Red Admirals, both on the beach and in the small town The area comprises sand dunes giving way to Pine forest, where nettles are relatively scarce. I was delighted to see them as RA is my all t...

A very interesting subject - i shall be interested to read member's opinions. Personally, I think that all but basic tweaking should be declared, and such images should absolutely not be countenanced in any competition.
