A handful of Marbled Whites on my local spot - isolated from any other colonies but hanging on (just). A survivor possibly from a bird attack but i like the underside shot:

Re: Holly Blue - Favourite Photo of 2023

Re: Essex Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2023

From the heartland of Essex Skipper territory are a few examples of this wonderful insect from various locations within the flood plain of the River Chelmer. Thankfully numbers seem to be stable with some of the colonies in the 100s despite the less than optimal grasssland management for the species...

The most beautiful Comma out of a stunning selection of those that I managed to get an image of was from a local park.

Re: Heath Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2023

A rather faded specimen from late in the flight period at Hockley Woods in Essex, but beautiful nonetheless, from a very active group of 22 mostly nectaring in the morning sun. 40+ were seen in mid-June.

3 entries from Essex, a male Brimstone looking remarkably like the surrounding bramble leaves; a male Silver-washed Fritillary flying in to join another; and a coupling pair of Ringlets because they were scarce in Essex this year.
