Making the most of some sun, we made the hour and a half trip to Devil's Dyke Cambridgeshire this morning. A trip to Rendlesham Forest in sunny but windy conditions give us our 1st Graying on the wing. A lunchtime wander around @EssexWildlife #greathollandpits today. 19 species on the wing. 16 WLH, 14 WA, 1 PE and various No's of SS, LS, SC, SH, C, RA, R, MB, SW, LW, SpW, B, GVW, CB, BA, HB Highlight was the amount of White Letter Hairstreak , White Admiral and of course finding the Purple Emperor...

An hour wander around the Silver-washed Fritillary area of Stour Wood , Wrabness this lunchtime found 4 on the wing along with White Admiral.

Red Admiral feeding on oak apple gall
Out walking around field margin behind our cottage this afternoon in North East Essex, once rain had stopped and sun was out I came across a few Red Admirals feed on Oak Apple Galls. Has this been noticed much before? New one on me.

Was lucky enough to find 3 on a trip to Strumpshaw Fen on the 16th June 2023. 2 in the Doctors Garden and 1 on the path through the Fen.
This was a return visit, first was with Greenwings, weather was very cold and wet a few weeks earlier. Nothing was on the wing

The find of the 2023 for me..... A Small Blue found on the 29th July at Essex Wildlife Trust The Naze , Walton. First butterfly for us yesterday, a very nice male Brimstone at Essex Wildlife Trust The Naze. We only managed to record 1 Brimstone at this site all last year.
