Re: Orange-tip - Favourite Photo of 2022

Lots to choose from as the Orange Tip is one of those species that demands I take a picture of it whenever I come across it. These two are my favourites from 2022 though. Re: Meadow Brown - Favourite Photo of 2022

The Meadow Brown tends to get overlooked by we photographers, hence I've not many decent ones to choose from, but I do rather like this one feeding from marsh thistle, taken in the Lincolnshire Limewoods during June.

Re: Marsh Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2022

There were so many Marsh Fritillaries about at Little Scrubbs Meadow, Lincolnshire when I visited on the 19th May, that it was difficult choosing a couple for this, but I have eventually plumped for these two.

Re: Large White - Favourite Photo of 2022

Even though I prefer the Orange Tip and Green-veined White as favourites of the UK Whites, there is something majestic about the Large that is lacking in the other species, especially the males when fresh. Not sure whether this was a male or female, but it makes for a nice pic on purple loosestrife ...

Re: Large Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2022

I could watch Large Skippers all day! Fascinating butterflies. Of the wealth of photos I took of them this year, I've narrowed it down to these three, all taken in our Lincolnshire butterfly garden: 1. A male living dangerously! Of the few photos I took this year of the Holly Blue, this is my favourite of a first brood female making a rare appearance on buddleia globosa in our butterfly garden.

Re: High Brown Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2022

I visited Old Castle Down, the South Wales hotspot, in late June but the weather was not too good on the few days we were there. Nevertheless, we managed to see the High Browns, all feeding was seen to be on bramble blossom. I reckon these three I've chosen, two males and a female (the last one), ar...

Re: Grizzled Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2022

I encountered very few Grizzled Skippers this year but of the few I took pictures of, this is my personal favourite - perched on meadowsweet atop an arched grass blade. This was in early June at Fineshade Wood, Northants. whilst seeking out the even scarcer Chequered Skipper.

Re: Green-veined White - Favourite Photo of 2022

I was impressed with the brazen couldn't care less attitude of these two Green-veined Whites going about their business in our butterfly garden. Let's be conspicuous, they declared - nothing better than doing it on a cowslip!

Re: Annual 2022 Competition

These are my choice from many photos taken this year (new camera!) I eventually narrowed it down to a handful and I chose these three because they each relate to a specific topic: sheer good luck in having incredible numbers of a migrant species almost on our doorstep, unusual camouflage, and a love...

Lovely, uplifting story, Phil. Your instincts proved correct. You should enter your last image in the annual photography competition that's just been launched. Re: Green Hairstreak - Favourite Photo 2022

I am really struggling to choose an outright favourite Green Hairstreak from my 2022 batch, so I've narrowed it down to these three: DSC02434 (2).JPG Taken on 27th May, this one on hawthorn was quite striking, perched along the twig. Taken at Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes NR in Lincolnshire, as wa...

Re: Dark Green Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2022

I'm torn for choice for my favourite DGF pics from 2022, but have narrowed them down to three. All taken on the 13th June at Bloody Oaks Quarry, Rutland. This first photo has been chosen because it clearly shows the upperside differences between the sexes, male on the left. DSC03575rs.JPG A male fea...
