That looks about right. I wondered if it might be a moth as I couldn't find it in Tolman.

Thanks Medard!

A French Alps Mystery

In 2017 I spent most of a week staying in the village of St. Francois Longchamps, in the Savoie region of France. It was brilliant for butterflies and I think I've managed to identify just about everything I saw and photographed except for one specimen. A couple of cropped photos are attached, not t...

Re: March 2019

Had a walk along the River Avon at West Amesbury yesterday. Lots of activity - 36 Brimstones, 16 Peacocks, 14 Commas and a Red Admiral.

Re: February 2019

After seeing a few Brimstones around the village recently, yesterday I took a walk by the Avon at West Amesbury in the glorious weather. Lots of activity, counted 20 Brimstones (at least), plus 4 Peacocks, a Small Tortoiseshell and a Comma. Got my first pics of the year except for the Tortoiseshell,...

Re: Advice for a friend

The major exception to that is when I'm using my excellent Sigma 105mm macro lens (which I bought after strong recommendations by many other UKBers, and after a full summer of use, would recommend in turn!) in low light conditions I love the Sigma 105! Seems there are some really good deals on it a...

Re: Holly Blue - Favourite Photo of 2018

I was seeing Holly Blues everywhere this year. Didn't get many photos though, and these are my best two. The first was in our garden on July 1st. The other was at Old Down, Basingstoke on July 31st.

Re: South Western Australia, Spring

These were my meagre pickings... To be fair, I never really went on a 100% butterfly hunt but, of course, kept my eyes peeled for anything that was about. And I certainly spent a lot of time among nature!

Re: South Western Australia, Spring

I was in and around New South Wales and southern Queensland in February/March and saw very few butterflies. I was mostly based around Canberra and there were a few to be seen at the National Botanical Gardens but outside of that, despite lots of time spent in the bush, nothing much at all. The only ...

Re: Geranium Bronze in Haute Savoie (74- France)

Small world - at the end of October I was visiting my son and his family at their home in Ville-la-Grand, also in Haute-Savoie. I was surprised and delighted to spot a couple of tiny butterflies in the front garden and they turned out to be Geranium Bronze. First time I had seen them.

Re: Common Blue - Favourite Photo of 2018

Has to be this one for me. A gorgeous morning on Salisbury Plain when I stumbled across a roost of 30-40 Common Blues in a small area.
