Re: August 2022
Returned to my local Heathland for a final try to get a photo of a Large Checkered Skipper. I found the same Long-tailed Blue still defending his territory, Short -tailed Blue, a first sighting there of a Grayling and, finally a Large Checkered Skipper who sat still for just a second - shame the pho...
Re: July 2022
I was very happy to find both Short and Long-tailed Blues on the same very local site here in Brittany. (Thanks for confirming ID David M).

Re: Long Tailed Blue? Brittany
Excellent. Thank you. I don’t think they’ve been noted where I am - at least not in the Atlas I’d Brittany Butterflies. It made my day seeing them!

Long Tailed Blue? Brittany
First ever sighting in a often walked site; heathland, acid soil, gorse and heather. I think this is a long-tailed Blue. Would appreciate confirmation or a better ID. Thanks.

Skipper ID help please, Brittany.
Apologies for the mediocre image. I snapped this Skipper the other evening in my garden on the hottest day and although it must be a Large or a Small one I can’t tell which - or perhaps a Silver Spotted? (Thanks Wolfson) It looks odd to me. Any help welcome.

ID help - Short tailed blue, Brittany?
Hello. I’d appreciate confirmation or contradiction. Poor quality photos of what might be a female Short-tailed Blue in my garden. I have seen them relatively locally before but mainly on heathland. First time in the garden.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Re: June 2022
White Admirals flying in local forest, but also two spotted on the edge of my garden yesterday.
Re: June 2022
First Ringlet and more Marbled Whites than I could count. Small Tortoiseshells doing very well too; more than eight in my garden.
Re: June 2022
First Large Skipper seen yesterday. Good numbers of male Meadow Browns 30+, no females yet. More Small Tortoiseshell 8+ in my garden than I have seen for several years. Painted Ladies plentiful too. Second sighting of Male Clouded Yellow.
Re: May 2022
Thank you Greenie! One day I’ll stop getting it wrong I’m happy to have seen her.
Re: May 2022
North West Brittany coast. Sunny but breezy. First male Common Blue (?) and a very unexpected Clouded Yellow.
Re: May 2022
First European Swallowtail in the garden this week, plus two Painted Ladies yesterday. All enjoying the Hesperis flowers.
Re: May 2022
Thanks David M, hopefully some females will turn up tomorrow!
Re: May 2022
Whilst I was on a fruitless hunt for a Green Hairstreak I was happy to see and photograph these two, fresh Sooty Coppers(?) I think (but may well be wrong) that one is Male and the other female?

Re: April 2022
A good couple of days. A few Dingy Skippers, a brief fly by of the first Swallowtail, lots of Holly Blues in the garden. Speckled Woods, a Small Copper and of course Brimstones and Orange Tips. Plus a Red Admiral.

Re: April 2022
Thanks Zig Zag and Otep for your kind comments about the Map butterflies. They really were both pristine and beautiful and the numbers seem to be stable in Brittany.

Re: April 2022
Whilst hoping for Orange Tips to sit still - which they didn’t. Something caught my eye. Two freshly emerged Spring generation Map butterflies in two separate parts of the field. And, unlike the Orange Tips, these stayed still for a photo.

Re: March 2022
Thanks David M and Bugboy for your comments! I’m feeling rather silly I should know better by now! I put it the photo side by side with this Speckled Wood taken the day before and they were so different that I jumped in with my assumption...

Re: March 2022
Not sure that it’s not because it’s the first of this year - but this Wall Brown seems particularly beautiful to me.
