Re: October 08

A lovely Comma came into the garden to-day after almost a week of lashing rain and gale force winds. Managed a few photos.

Hello Mouse, I like your photos of your cat, I thought you'd like to see Rosy my dog and sooty, they are not allowed on the chairs but as soon as my back is turned there up to mischief and I caught them the other day both together on camera. 100_7627.jpg and Sooty in his flower pot. 100_7478.jpg Reg...

Re: Small Tortoiseshell

What didn't help if anyone else noticed. When I really began to be interested in butterflies is September 2006, the flowering ivy was everywhere smothered in butterflies, Small Tortoiseshell's, Red Admiral's, Comma's, Painted Ladies, they were masses in every patch of ivy, it was a wonderful sight. ...

Best photos ever that I've seen of l.t.t., have you thought of sending them to Bird Watching magazine, with the story as well I'm sure they'd snatch your hand off to print those. :D . Shirley

Re: September 2008

Jack, has the Harvest Moon got anything to do with the nights drawing in? that was 15th September, I've just looked it up on the internet and quote the harvest moon is about that harvest of emotions, an abundance of the heart. Well! its interesting anyway.

Re: August 2008 Votes

Thanks for your comments Fishee, should after the photo is taken, take it to a software like photoshop and light or darken it. As a campact I haven't learnt how to adjust the camera before the shot so its on auto focus. Is it therefor recommended to have a little go at the photo before presenting it...

Re: August 2008 Votes

Congratulations to the winners. This is not sour grapes, but I think this monthly competitions is for SLR cameras and not for a Compact because backgrounds don't seems to be the thing. Paul Kiplings entry I thought was beautiful, the butterfly was in the light showing up its stunning green with the ...

I remember seeing somewhere that the Speckled Wood likes farm gates and implements because it likes the warmth. I have lots of these butterflies around ivy and one thing they like is the herb Marjaram.

Re: September 2008

Why is every thing sprayed with poison in Switzerland, maybe they are trying to get rid of Ragwort, it gets everywhere. I've been on the internet to see what Jack can do in Malta, drink and dance mostly and there are 19 species of butterfly not one I know because all the names were in Latin. Have a ...

Red Admirals and others

What's left in the garden, a lot is a bit bashed by the weather but what is in full bloom? Ivy. To-day Red Admirals in great numbers visited the masses of flowering ivy I have. One or two Small Tortoiseshell's and Speckled Woods were also enjoying a sunny day. Hundreds of flying insects, small type ...
