Re: Painted Lady influx!!!

I've never seen any butterflies on a rose before and this poor rose didn't have any scent but maybe it was warm. Picture 014 (Small).jpg The day had a few showers but it was ok with a few butterflies about. Shirley. PS I have seen one very bright Painted Lady, can anyone tell me are we waiting for t...

I found a Green-veined White amongst the Gypsophilia and that about it so far to-day. I've discovered with this Sony camera its possible to take Raw and jpg toget...

I also have appreciated this advice and raised the iso and stood further back and it indeed is based on loads of practise.
Thanks Roger, Pete and Eccles for explaining the above.

Re: July 2009 Sightings

This evening I got some photos of a Large Skipper, I had set the camera to take jpg and raw but I don't know where the raw ones have disappeared to but I'm pleased with some of them, the butterflies in the cool of the evening were easier to approach.

Re: I.Ds please :)

If you tap their heads you'll have to touch them and if you do they will fly away then you won't get any photos at all. Their less active in the morning and evening but I wouldn't recommend tapping them on the head, its cruel.

Re: July 2009 Sightings

Nice photo that Jack, I haven't seen any Comma's yet, the cutting of the Golden Glow buddlia is nearly flowering but the purple one is in full bloom and the Red Admiral are coming to it.

Re: I.Ds please :)

I'm not 100 per cent sure, you'd better wait for one of the other members to answer that, sorry. When the wings were open did it have orange tips?

Re: I.Ds please :)

You have taken a beautiful Orange Tip and the lower photo, a Speckled Wood. Welcome to this web-site. Butterflies are gentle creatures.

Re: Where are the Red Admirals?

We have quite a few on our Buddelia in Nefyn and along the lanes, saw 3 yesterday. Have you been up to the orme to see the Silver-studded blue, there's a small amount of these special butterflies up there that are called the 'orme race'. One of those would make a fantastic photo :)

Re: Caterpillar

I know what it is, I have been on the index pages and its a Meadow Brown caterpillar. I will have to spend more time on the front pages of this site instead of on the forum. :)

Caterpillar

Is this caterpillar a butterfly? I was actually taking the Ladybird photo but I noticed the caterpillar in the corner of the photo, seems quite interesting.
