Re: Two from Turkey

Thanks Pete - as speedy as ever. :D

I guess if you don't know the top one we are not likely to get another reply or do you have some members who may be more familar with Turkish butterflies than you?

Re: Where to see a Bloxworth Blue?

Thanks for that. :D Seems it will need someone who can tell the difference between the two though.

Where to see a Bloxworth Blue?

I see we have a Langs short tailed blue in the database which I guess is related but where in Europe would I be likely to find a Bloxworth Blue - if at all?

Re: help with a couple of identifications

First one I'd hazard a guess at a type of carpet moth. Why not post in on Back-Garden Moths - they enjoy a challenge?!

Re: Lantana

Hi Rosie,

If you can get any seeds off those lantanas - I'd be interested.

Fritillary?

It would be a first for me if it was! I think it looks like the Silver washed in my book but as I've never seen one I couldn't be sure.

Many thanks,

Update

At the request of my county moth recorder I sent my 3 pics to the Natural History Museum for a definative Id. It took over a month but I finally got a reply: "This specimen appears to be more like ab. subalbida Verity although there is only a subtle difference in colour between this ab. and ab....

Hi Pete, One thing springs to mind as I had to ask it in the forum! If you land in the forum from a search engine, there is no clear way of finding the rest of the site. Maybe it is obvious to most but I'm not a newbie to the web and I didn't click it (literally  ) You/ve put so much work into ...

Sorry to add my 2 penneth  but can we have a category for best pic taken with a digital camera that cost less than £100, was brand new when paid for, had no extended lenses or add ons and the photographers eyes were closed when they took it .............. ? Maybe then I stand a chance (al...

Hi Mat, can't tell you about research only experience. In my garden the butterflies love the white buddleia daviddii. Sedum spectabilis is also supposed to be popular for late season but I've never seen one on mine! I've had early painted ladies on hardy osteospermum and all sorts on my horse eye da...

Hi Dave, don't know if you already know but ..... buddleias don't need 'special prunning', just cut them back to as low as you can go every spring! My star buddleia is a twelve footer that was only 4 foot back in April, it's a real hero that I grew from a cutting some 12 years ago. I didn't get as m...

I get it now!!!!!! 2 questions though - Are ferrets always white or are these special ones? And at the risk of making myself look really dumb ....... Is that a moth on the black drain? I've already sussed that it being 'a drain moth ' is all part of the joke 'cause I bet even Pete can't id th...

Hi Shirley,

I think maybe you've put the wrong picture up re the caterpillar?

As for common yellow and black caterpillars the only one I know is the cinnabar moth which I'd love to see but never have despite the ragwort growing all round and in my garden!
