Re: "Blue" underside

Well, from what I could see, tha Adonis outnumbered Chalkhill by about 6-1 so that would make sense. Cheers

"Blue" underside

Hi people. I'm hopeless at IDing certain Blues from underside only shots, some help with this one (with pointers to help me in future) would be appreciated
Taken 20th August on a site with both Adonis and Chalkhill Blues on the wing.

TIA.

Aberration, probably but of what?

<slinks back in as if he's been here all along> Ok, I found this today, north Hertfordshire on some rough ground/wildflower area. Lots of meadow brown and small torts, a few whites and I think I saw a couple of ringlets but everything was way too quick today. In flight it looked completely black on ...

Just a quick update.....

A quick update, more to keep this ticking over for myself than anything :D I've got three new species since the DGFs so I'm up to 41 species photographed. #39 was a total surprise while on holiday in Cornwall. We visited Lizard Point on 31st July and after we'd done the obligatory walk down to the o...

Anyone good with macros?

I've got a macro moth I'd like some opinions on. Can I post it here?

Cheers

Is it really a year already?

so it's just over a year since my last entry on here. What a year! Back in April 2017, Mrs C was diagnosed with breast cancer and she spent the summer going through Chemo & surgery and two weeks either side of Christmas, including boxing day, having intensive radiotherapy. She's on the mend, and...

Re: Bugboys mission

Wow. Just wow. Those WLH shots are awesome! Once next summer is out of the way and I've either succeeded or failed in my 50/50 mission I'm going to be going out with the express purpose of improving on existing species. Looks like I might be tapping you for sites and photo hints mate!

The Sabbath T-Shirt does it again :D It was a family trip to Sutton hoo today (to satisfy Mrs C's archaeology cravings) with a short detour to Sutton and Hollesley commons on the way home. We got to Sutton Hoo mid morning, in overcast and windy (but warm) conditions. There were a few Meadow Browns a...

No new species, but...

I went out this lunchtime hoping for an (early?) Essex Skipper, without success but I came a bit closer to getting some of the "extra" shots that are on my wishlist. Overcast and a bit too windy really but the Marbled Whites were still far too flighty to get anything decent on. Except one....

Any photo of a White-letter is worthwhile Simon - I've seen them the last 6 years but only got photos from two of them  Have a goodun Wurzel Thanks Wurzel. The first three shots that morning were the classic "where's Wally" type shot but luckily (because I decided I could afford ...

To echo everybody else: well done on the LHs. One of those I can't see me getting for a while.
Plus the "butterfly on Orchid" photo is another on my wishlist, so definitely deserves another of these:

Hahaha. Yeah, I've been to Cropredy a few times in my youth. And Cambridge folk festival (do they still do the chair jump challenge on the last night? ;) ) and going to my fourth Folk by the Oak this year (Kate Rusby!) But yeah, I'm more an aging rocker with a wider taste in music. (The hair started...

Realised yesterday that all 7 lifers this year I was wearing a Black Sabbath T-Shirt.
I don't think I dare go looking for the next couple without it's Talismanic properties. :D

Re: Bugboys mission

Excellent reports and very inspirational (I'll be refering to these in the future if/when I finally get to go up there :) )Any one of those "Chequered Skipper on Bluebell (or bracken)" shots would keep a smile on my face for the rest of the year if I'd taken them.
