Late "small" Skipper

I saw a "small" Skipper today in Staffs. I've seen all three sp on the site previously. Unfortunately it was a bit flighty and I didn't manage a photo of it. I'm leaning towards Essex on date. Would I be safe in this assumption?

As an aside, why in guides are butterflies portrayed like this when they never appear like this in real life?

HB or DG Frit?

Interesting visit to Arnside Knot this afternoon. Plenty of frits whizzing around. Some faded ones. Some orange ones. Some sat still. Is this one possibly a High Brown? I fear not but its worth trying.

Pearl-bordered or Small P B Frit

Picture 150627 111.jpg We saw this today in the Wyre Forest at Buttonoak. At first we decided as it was worn maybe it was a P B Frit, but with an additional photo of its underwing, we now believe it to be a Small P B Frit. So I looked again at my P B Frit taken at Llanymynech Rocks on 4th June. I a...

Re: June 2015

21 June First visit to Glapthorn Cow Pastures and saw 4+ Black Hairstreak. 23 June Quick trip to Whixall Moss where saw 30+ Large Heath. Really did think I wasn't going to get a photo but eventually found a tame one. Then onto Prees Heath where there were loads of Silver-studded Blues emerging. Also...

Re: Wood Whites Midlands

I basically parked in the car park and there is a noticed on a path which goes up the slope by a picnic table (another wide path goes out of the car park with a gate across). I walked up the slope a bit to a man carved in a tree trunk on right hand side. This path is narrower and just walked up here...

Decent weather this week I think. Any good Wood White sites in Midlands (I live North Staffs) where I can pop down during the afternoon please?

Anyone been to Eyarth Rocks this week? I'm particularly after Grizzled Skip and P B Frit. Looks sunny tomorrow. What are my chances?
