A Brown Argus Butterfly Please?

Hello: sorry to bother but I saw the character in the picture earlier today and assumed (with the seeming blue sheen) her to be a female Common Blue Butterfly but I'm now wondering whether it might be a Brown Argus Butterfly. The picture probably isn't too helpful but any guidance will be super-appr...

Re: Mike Robinson

Well: we had something of a Surprise this Afternoon. We spent much of the Morning wandering around the Crossness Nature Reserve and the Surrounding area seeing the usual Suspects, including Comma , Peacock , Orange-Tip and Speckled Wood Butterflies, viz. commasouthernmarsh6april2017.jpg peacockfootp...

Re: Mike Robinson

Dear David M and Millerd: Thanks for noticing the Orange-Tip Butterfly. During 2016, we saw our first Orange-Tip Butterfly on 12 April so this is a couple of weeks or so earlier. They were out in force yesterday (same place) viz. orangetiptwo30march2017.jpg orangetipone30march2017.jpg And there were...

Re: Whites

MikeOxon: Howdy. I'm ever so pleased (or relieved) to read your reply. As the Year progresses I find it more and more difficult to differentiate between Green-Veined and Small White Butterflies and that is before I add Large Whites to the mix. I feel a bit of a fool when admitting this to people. Bu...

Re: sonomoha

A couple of days ago I watched a Brimstone Butterfly hurtling towards me. It settled on some Red Dead-Nettles just in front of me! That sort of thing seems to happen quite often.

Re: Mike Robinson

Our Butterfly Season continues apace locally (in the London Borough of Bexley). There seem to be quite a few Small Tortoiseshell Butterflies fluttering around viz. smalltortsfootpatherith25march2017.jpg smalltortfootpatherith25march2017.jpg smalltortfootpatherith27march2017.jpg Also a growing number...

Re: Mike Robinson

For David M and Wurzel,

Thanks for noticing this &c. Interestingly, we are aware of a local’ sighting earlier in the Month, of a possible Small White Butterfly; sadly, the person who saw the Butterfly was unable to ID it with full Confidence.

Re: Mike Robinson

I really must make an effort with this, this Year. During an Outing walking over the former Thamesmead Golf Course and along the Thames Path towards Erith on Saturday (lovely weather) we were Super-Fortunate in spotting a Brimstone Butterfly , a Comma Butterfly , two Peacock Butterflies , at least t...

Re: Mike Robinson

I'm probably being over-fanciful but has occurred to me that the face of the Large Skipper Butterfly bears an uncanny resemblance to the face of an American Bison!

Re: Bhutan Butterflies

Dear Sonam, I am mesmerised; by both your enthusiasm and the super pictures. I know this is a Butterfly Forum but it was lovely to see some of your Wild Flowers. And, as someone who refers to Butterflies as being Fairies in Disguise and also likes to look at Wild Flowers as an alternative to Butterf...

An Essex Skipper Please? Thank You ...

Sorry to be a bother but I think I will always find some Butterflies confusing; Essex and Small Skippers included.

I'm assuming (not to rashly I hope) that the character in the pictures is an Essex Skipper viz. the black on the antennae.

Thank you ...
