Re: Lulworth Skipper sites

Hi Nige, Good sites for the Lulworth Skipper, that I usually visit, include: - Durlston Country Park http://www.durlston.co.uk/ - Around Lulworth Cove, particuarly Bindon Hill if possible. In regards to your query about the Duke of Burgundy, Giant Hill in Cerne Abbas is very good at the moment for D...

Re: Favourite Photo of 2013

Brown Hairstreak at Alners Gorse, Dorset in 2013.

One of my favourite images of the year simply because it was my first shot of this beautiful butterfly!

Re: buddliea for holly blue?

I've personally not heard of them ovipositing on Buddleia before, but it definitely seems to be considering it in your video! I'll have to give Buddleia a go next time I have some larvae :)

Re: April 2014

In general, they don't; our cold winters (when we have cold winters!) kill them off. Yes - Nick Bowles (Upper Thames) and I both observed this in 2006 (I think!), as noted in British Wildlife magazine where Nick and Richard Fox (BC) have a regular roundup of butterfly and moth sightings. I'm sure th...

Re: April 2014

Sorry to bore you with more Clouded Yellows, but I couldn't resist this pair on 17 April. Many people have remarked on the scarcity of Red Admirals this spring; my only sighting this year was in early March. However, on 16 April I spotted this folded leaf which contained a plump Red Admiral caterpi...

Re: Mazarine Blue

I certainly don't have a problem with it, any introduction of an 'extinct' UK butterfly species sounds like a good idea to me! Providing proper research is done onto the probability of a re-introduction and proposed sites. I'd like to see the Black-veined White, Large Copper and Large Tortoiseshell ...
