A very wise decision today Katrina, bearing in mind Herstmonceux is now approaching it's best. Good to read you found some more Walls, I've only found one there so far this year. I found a cracking site for Walls today, only 9 miles from home, never been there before  . Trevor. Good to read a...

Herstmonceaux

Thank you David Trevor's recent post of STs at Herstomonceaux propelled it from my short list to top of my list to go today. I left in grey skies but arrived in sunshine. As usual the Buddleias were attracting the butterflies. I saw on them Commas, Red Admirals, Peacocks, one Painted Lady, one Holly...

Re: Katrina

Oh wow! That looks like my kind of holiday Katrina. It was a good one with aunts, uncles, cousins and their children and people celebrating 60th and 50 th wedding anniversarys. Well done with the Red Squirrel. My best view of one ever was on the Isle of Wight, it ran and paused in the road as we le...

Scotland Butterflies

The place we were staying at had quite a lot of private land. Soon after I arrived I got a test from my sister to say she had found mating DGF in one location and NBA in another. She met me and took me to the DGF. We went to the DGF first and I managed to see them but it took me multiple attempts to...

Help with Caterpillar ID

i was recently in Scotland on holiday and photographed caterpillars.
I am thinking the ones with the white spots may be peacocks, the yellow stripes may be Small Tortoiseshell but am not sure about the other one.
Can anyone confirm / help? All found on nettles.

Botany Bay

This morning I went to Botany Bay/ Chiddingfold. Only one brief encounter with PE - it buzzed Dave Miller and myself flying right past my nose. Teamwork - Dave identified it as a PE and I saw roughly where it landed which was in a muddy side path so located it. Despite staying well back it flew off ...

Blue Silver

I went to Iping and Steadham Commons this morning. The butterflies were active but plentiful. Some of the females seemed to have a bit of green on their wings - maybe a trick of the light. I found 3 pairs. The weather was hot. Also seen were a Red Adminral, a Small Tortoiseshell, a Painted Lady, Spe...
