In the south of France, the early generation is similar to that further north, whereas the later summer generation has much more pronounced markings.

My sightings of Orange Tip this year ran from the end of March in the south of France, up to the beginning of June when I popped back to the UK.

This pair was seen in the south of France on the 22nd of May.
As I look at this photo, and with the chill wind currently blowing outdoors, its hard to image the warmth of that day in the month of May. Chris
