Re: Small Heath - Favourite Photo 2019

In the south of France, the early generation is similar to that further north, whereas the later summer generation has much more pronounced markings.
Here, 11th August:

Re: Small Blue - Favourite Photo 2019

I'm impressed by these large gatherings of Small Blues above.
I've never seen that in the south of France.
Here is my photo for last year from May 18th.

Back in July .... as if it were only a few days old. http://eastsussexwanderer.blogspot.co.uk An interesting find, downland boy, it makes you wonder where it started its travels from !! This year, for the Painted Lady, I could have posted a photo of an egg, host plant, fecal matter, larval shelter,...

Re: Orange-tip - Favourite Photo 2019

My sightings of Orange Tip this year ran from the end of March in the south of France, up to the beginning of June when I popped back to the UK.
This female is from the 31st of March in the south of France:

Re: Meadow Brown - Favourite Photo 2019

This pair was seen in the south of France on the 22nd of May.
As I look at this photo, and with the chill wind currently blowing outdoors, its hard to image the warmth of that day in the month of May.

This one was seen in the south of France on the 11th May in the west Var, and should correspond to sub-species E. aurinia provincialis:

That Red Admiral is in good nick, Guy.
Despite the temperature difference between the UK and the south of France, my sightings are no better, and my photos are much worse :? .

Re: Grayling - Favourite Photo of 2019

I love the open-wing shots above (BB and Dave) - always a good challenge with this species.

I only managed one photo this year. I guess this species was not a priority target this year - so much to do, so little time to do it in.
