Amazing Atlas Moth:

I know this is not a native Butterfly but a foreign moth, however it is so impressive that I had publish a photo for all to see. This was a female Atlas Moth taken at Butterfly World on the Isle of Wight on Friday, in all its glory with its wings fully open and measuring an amazing 9 inches across. ...

Female Adonis Blue:

Robin,
I would say that it is almost certainly a female Adonis Blue, on the fact that the black lines cross the white margin on the upper wings.
Also the right time for the 2nd brood.

Hope this helps,

Rock

Sites near Blandford

I would recommend the following sites (all directions available on UK Butterflies):
Fifehead Woods
Duncliffe Woods
Lydlynch Common
Alners Gorse
Badbury Rings (only 2-3 miles from Balndford)
Fontmell Down
Melbury Down

Happy Butterflying.

Painted Lady and Red Admiral

Darren,
I think they are very good photos considering they were taken with a compact camera, as Pete said the back lighting on the PL is excellent, I also like the proboscis curled as it is.
I am sure you will enjoy your new camera even more, I know I have done.

Regards,

Rock.

The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland

In the Book section 'The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland' is listed as out of print, but still an excellent book.
I cannot read the authors name(s). Can anyone help or does anyone have a copy they may wish to sell?

Regards,

Rock
